The Hague is full of tastemakers – sometimes quite literally. In this blog, we’re heading into the kitchen with local chefs, cooking enthusiasts, and baristas who are more than happy to share their skills with you in surprising and delicious workshops.
Always wanted to up your cooking game? Dreaming of baking pizza in a real stone oven? Or is it finally time you learned how to make a truly great cup of coffee? Let’s get cooking! Here’s where to go for these culinary treasures:
We’re rolling
Rolling the perfect sushi is an art. And who better to teach you than the Sushimeisjes (Sushi Girls)? Luckily, they love to pass on their knowledge and skills. While enjoying some bites and drinks, you can join a sushi workshop with a group. They even host workshops for kids – perfect for a birthday party or just a fun get-together!
Do you know how the fork lands on the table?
Want to seriously level up your cooking? Then Chef Udo from Eetwinkel Vork is your go-to. In the back of the shop, you’ll find a fully equipped cooking studio where he hosts cooking workshops. Each one focuses on a specific country’s cuisine. One week you’ll be mastering Italian dishes, the next it’s Thai, followed by Japanese, Mexican, and French delights.
Workshops start at 7:45 PM and run until 10:30 PM.

Workshop it at BLOW
BLOW is one of those beach spots where there’s always something going on and that includes the culinary side of things. Two awesome cooking workshops are on their schedule:
- Gather ‘round the flames and get ready for the Open Fire Workshop. Grilling fish, roasting veggies, slow-cooking meat… it all happens over an open fire! Note: this workshop is available for groups of 20 people or more, so it’s perfect for a family gathering, a friend group, or a team event with colleagues.
- In the Pizza Workshop, pizzaiolo Aad teaches you everything you need to know in 2.5 hours – from the history of pizza to stretching, tossing, and baking your dough in a wood-fired oven. Naturally, you’ll be welcomed with a delicious Italian drink and afterwards, you all dig into your freshly baked pizzas together.
Cooking together, eating together, connecting
Every Tuesday, De Volkskeuken sets up at the beach near The Shore. And this isn’t just any dinner, it’s a truly community-driven project. Together, you make sure everyone who shows up gets a warm plate of food. You can chip in by donating some money, helping with cleanup, or by jumping into the kitchen.
Starting in the afternoon, you can help chop vegetables or puree soup. The lovely people from De Volkskeuken will guide you through it all. You’ll learn something, do something good, and that plate of food at the end? It’ll taste even better for it.

A damn good cup of coffee
In the Barista Workshop at Brute Bonen, you’ll learn how to brew truly great coffee. They’ll teach you everything about crafting the perfect cup. From espresso to cappuccino to a smooth latte. Of course, you’ll also get hands-on experience. In just 2 hours, you’ll be prepped and ready to be your own (home) barista. With a max of 6 participants per session, personal attention is guaranteed!
It’s always a treat to find a heart in the milk foam on your coffee. But what about a flower? Or even a swan…? How do baristas pull that off? At Roast Factory, they’ll show you how! In the Latte Art Workshop, you’ll start with the basics – frothing the milk – and gradually build your skills until you’re a full-fledged milk artist.
