Thursday 24 April 2025
Heads up! This year, King’s Day will be celebrated a day early – on Saturday, April 26! Since the King’s birthday falls on a Sunday, the orange festivities kick off on Saturday instead. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably seen sidewalk chalk marking out spots for the flea markets and posters for all kinds of fun events popping up around the city. The Hague is ready to party!
As always, we’re starting things off right with THE LIFE I LIVE, the free music festival in the city centre on King’s Night. King’s Day itself is always a blast, with flea markets on (among others) the Fred, Lange Beestenmarkt, Keizerstraat, and Piet Heinstraat. Whether you’re strolling around a bit bleary-eyed or getting up bright and early to score the best finds—there’s something for everyone!
And of course, our The Hague treasures have a lot of fun in store for this festive day too. Check out what’s happening here!

Orange from Head to Toe
King’s Day means a whole lot of orange—and plenty of red, white, and blue outfits. You could grab that orange feather boa from the dress-up box or throw on an old football shirt. But why not celebrate in style this year? With an outfit that’ll last for many King’s Days to come.
Atelier Sientje
Our very own The Hague-based designer Sientje creates the coolest suits, trousers, skirts—you name it! She recently opened her boutique-meets-atelier in the charming Herenstraat in Voorburg. Totally worth the detour! Just look at this adorable “Poppy suit”—perfect for King’s Day (and honestly, for any festive or festival day). We’re sold!
Couqou
We rarely leave Couqou empty-handed. Entering this tucked-away alley on Noordeinde is entirely at your own risk! With a collection full of bright colours, playful prints, and tons of lovely accessories, you’re bound to find something fun for King’s Day here.
Achtung! Lady
King’s Day, with all its flea markets, is also a celebration of second-hand and sustainability. And that’s exactly what Achtung! Lady is all about. But this isn’t just any second-hand women’s fashion. They’re pretty picky about what makes it to the racks, so you’re guaranteed to find unique pieces from quality brands.
Stokstaart
The most colourful kids’ shop in The Hague lives on Weimarstraat! A great place to pick out a cute outfit for the little ones. And if you’re lucky—they’ll be open on Saturday, April 26! From 10 AM to 4 PM, they’re hosting a mini sidewalk sale. And trust us… it could get pretty popular. Better get there early!

A Festive Start
Kick off your day with a celebratory breakfast in shades of orange at one of these treasures in The Hague.
Bij Keuken
At this lovely (just opened!) terrace, you’ll find the city’s best fresh (vegan) orange tompoucen. You can also pick up—or enjoy on the spot—the famous breakfast box by Aafke.
Petit Paradis
Looking to escape the orange madness for a bit? Petit Paradis, a little slice of paradise in the city centre on Westeinde, is open today as usual. Grab a seat at one of the picnic tables on the leafy square out front.
Hug the Tea
Expect a whole lot of orange—and a touch of green—this Saturday. From 10 AM to 1:30 PM, the lovely ladies of Hug the Tea will be serving orange tompoucen alongside their signature matcha. A royal combo!

Cheers to the King!
Once you’ve had a solid orange breakfast, it’s time to party. With an Aperol or a cold beer in hand, you’re ready to hit the dance floor, join fun activities, and play some classic King’s Day games at our treasures.
BLEND ONE
Voorburg’s favourite coffee spot is throwing the ultimate orange bash: BLEND’R. Think drinks, bites, and beats—as they put it. Starting at noon, you can head to their terrace for Aperol Spritz, BBQ, and music by various DJs. Entry is free!
Bistro Le Petit Chef
Feeling fancy? Forget King’s Day—it’s all about Fête du Roi at Bistro Le Petit Chef, our fabulous The Hague treasure just over the city border in Oud Rijswijk. It’s a full-on celebration: disco and bingo for kids kicks off at 12 PM, followed by disco bingo for adults at 4 PM, with great DJ sets in between.
Bistro Jules
Of course, King’s Day calls for celebratin on the Koningsplein! Expect a lively flea market, live music, DJs, orange tompoucen, BBQ… “The beers are cold from 9 AM,” promise the folks from St. Joris and our local fave, Café Bistro Jules. We’ll hold them to it!
Rechtstreex
Quench your royal thirst with a Kaapse Willie: “Light on its feet, but bold in flavour—just like our King Willie.” You can grab this tasty beer at Rechtstreex on Weimarstraat. And this week only, they’ve got a King’s Day special: get a free bag of crisps with your can of Willie!
