One more season: Buitenontbijtjes

After seven successful summers, Aafke’s ‘Buitenontbijtjes’ adventure is coming to an end. A super cool concept and a delightful start to your day: this The Hague treasure wakes up early in the morning to prepare delicious breakfasts, fills her cargo bike with treats, and rides out to let you enjoy them.

But this season will be her last. Understandably, we all crave something new from time to time. But it’s a pity for us! We are big fans and have often enjoyed an amazing start to the day with one of her breakfasts. So, we’re shouting it from the rooftops one more time: make sure to enjoy a delicious, healthy breakfast in nature this summer! Starting your day this way surely makes anyone happy.

Start your day outside

A well-known tradition in The Hague: during the summer, you can reserve a spot in nature for an outdoor breakfasts! And if there’s one thing that makes us at Haagse Schatten happy, it’s enjoying some fresh food and a coffee with our feet in the grass or toes in the sand. A crate turned upside down as a breakfast table and a freshly served organic breakfast from a wooden cargo bike is all you need.

Unique, fresh and delicious

All summer long, Aafke prepares fresh breakfasts every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 to 11:30 in the forest or on the beach. Each time in a different spot, alternating between forest and beach depending on the weather and wind. The breakfasts are different every week but always equally delicious and fresh.

When you arrive (any time before 10:15) at your chosen breakfast location, you’ll see it already set up: Aafke’s wooden cargo bike annex kitchen. You’ll get your own outdoor chair, and while you enjoy the nature around you, your (vegetarian) breakfast is being prepared. Everything you taste that morning is made with as many pure and local products as possible. And all this while you breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the surrounding nature.

Reserve quickly!

There are always twelve spots available per breakfast, which you can only book through the website www.buitenontbijtjes.nl. Dates are published every two weeks and often fill up quickly, so be sure to act fast. Keep an eye on Instagram if you want to know when new spots are available.

There is no set menu; the breakfast is always a surprise, always vegetarian, and costs €22.50 per person. Kids can have breakfast for €8.50.

BijKeuken

Fortunately, Aafke’s BijKeuken at Columbusstraat 266 remains open as usual. Here you can also get a lovely breakfasts made by her. They are available for takeaway from Tuesday to Sunday, from 7:30 am to 12 pm. Alternatively, you can have a breakfast delivered to your home, beautifully packaged in a sustainable box. They offer special birthday breakfasts, Valentine’s breakfasts, wedding breakfasts, and gift boxes, making them perfect for surprises too. You can order them here.
