In this monthly column, we highlight one of our entrepreneurs each time. And what could be more fitting during these beautiful spring days than a chat with a truly colorful treasure: Julia from our favorite flower shop, De Iris.
This flower shop is a feast for the eyes. Lush bouquets, elegant vases, and cheerful accessories—De Iris is always a joy to visit, whether you’re picking out something special for yourself or a gift for someone else.
Julia – Flower Shop De Iris
Owner Julia grew up surrounded by flowers and followed her passion all the way to the highest level of the craft: the prestigious Proeve van Meesterschap, a qualification that only a select few florists successfully complete. As a certified Floral Design Master, she shares her love for the art with her equally colorful—and ever-growing—team. Together, they make sure every creation is both moving and surprising. And they’ve been doing that for quite a few years now…
Time for a few questions!

This year marks a special anniversary for De Iris. Tell us more!
In 2025, flower shop De Iris will celebrate its 50th anniversary. I took over the shop from my parents 35 years ago. The name comes from Irisstraat, the street where my father and his brother once ran a flower stall. For me, De Iris is all about connecting with flowers. We, as humans, are connected to nature—and through that connection, we can let flowers speak. They have so much to say.
We’re celebrating our anniversary with all kinds of activities. At the end of May and early June, we’ll be hosting mini workshops on Saturdays where you can create a bouquet with peonies. In the fall, we’re organizing a bingo night, and later this year we’ll be decorating and glamming up our famous geese—the ones you always see outside on the Laan van Meerdervoort. So keep an eye on our socials or website!
What does it mean to you to be one of the The Hague treasures?
We were so excited to be asked to become a The Hague treasure. And it really is an honor to be featured on the treasure map alongside so many great businesses and entrepreneurs. We’re now also an official sales point for the Haagse Schatten gift card, and we’ve noticed that customers love giving it as a present. We’re always happy to tell them about the other treasures they can visit!
Are there any fellow Treasures you love—or still want—to visit?
I love going to Het Filmhuis. De Sushimeisjes are just around the corner from us and their food is amazing. Now that the beach bars are open again, I often go to BLOW and De Kwartel. And besides that, there’s still so much for me to discover!
