Treasure behind the treasure: Couqou

In this monthly column, we shine a spotlight on one of our entrepreneurs each time. This month, we ask a few questions to Jacqueline and Niek, the ever-enthusiastic owners of Couqou. Or should we say “Maison Couqou,” since this couple is expanding their empire and will soon open a revamped store at a fantastic new location. Care to join us for a look inside?

Congratulations on this new step! Can you give us a little sneak peek?

After 10 wonderful years at our beloved Noordeinde location, we’ve outgrown our space. That’s why in May we’ll be moving to a stunning new spot at Toussaintkade 1. At Couqou, our goal has always been to give people a unique shopping experience with a special atmosphere and beautiful items for a variety of customers. At Toussaintkade, that experience will only get bigger. With a store twice the size of our Noordeinde location, we’ll be able to welcome more people and expand our offerings. We’ll also be collaborating with new brands. Maison Couqou, as this Couqou 2.0 will be called, will exude luxury while offering clothing, jewelry, and accessories for every budget.

What does it mean for you to be a The Hague treasure?

We’ve been a Haagse schat for eight years, and we’ve watched the platform grow into more than just a wonderful way to discover new entrepreneurs and be discovered ourselves. Together with all the other The Hague treasures, we form a close-knit group of business owners who care deeply about their shops and help each other wherever they can. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to share an overview of all these unique local businesses with our customers through the The Hague treasure map and recommend all these great places. And of course, we’re very proud to be part of it.

Which fellow treasures do you often visit?

Our dear friends at Strandhuis Maví have created a fantastic spot on the most beautiful stretch of The Hague beach. We happily send all our customers there for a perfect beach experience. For a lovely place to stay, we recommend the wonderful La Paulowna Boutique Hotel. Bistro Jules is also a favorite. And a boat tour through our stunning city with The Hague Boat is, of course, amazing. Honestly, though, there isn’t a single treasure we wouldn’t recommend. Truly!
