Treasure behind the treasure: De Sushimeisjes

Who are those great local entrepreneurs? Get to know the treasures behind our The Hague treasures. This time, it's Nicole and Lisa.

Wednesday 3 September 2025

Two friends, one passion: sushi! Born and raised in The Hague, Lisa and Nicole started rolling sushi years ago with a simple thought: truly fresh sushi is always the tastiest. “Our goal was to make delicious sushi for a wide audience and to set ourselves apart from all the big all-you-can-eat restaurants. Fresh sushi really is the best.”

Fast forward to today: two restaurants, a delivery and catering service later, and the Sushimeisjes have become a true household name in The Hague. Time for some questions!

We always say: a The Hague treasure is worth going the extra mile for. What do you go out of your way for?

100% for good food. Some of our favorite spots include Fat Kee for Chinese, a sandwich at Brood van Bro, and Triptyque in Wateringen. We’d rather skip the standard horeca.

Congratulations! You’re celebrating 10 years! How did it all start, and how did you get to where you are now?

It all started 10 years ago with a simple idea: making sushi the way we love to eat it ourselves. Fresh, creative, and full of flavor. By now, we’ve got two restaurants, we run catering and workshops, and we’ve built up a huge customer base. It’s honestly crazy to see how fast things have grown. Of course, there have been ups and downs, but the downs have always been valuable lessons. Never regrets.

Any dreams, goals, or future plans?

In the evenings we’ll keep making sushi, but during the day at our Valkenboskade location we’re starting something completely new: Café Su. There we’ll be serving an Asian-inspired lunch with a Western twist—so no sushi, but a whole new concept. Beyond that, we want to grow our catering and events even more, so we can provide sushi at even more parties and special occasions. When we started, we had maybe two competitors—now it’s ten times that… but luckily people still know where to find us. To keep ourselves inspired, we even went to Tokyo last year purely to eat and collect ideas for the future!
