In this monthly column, we shine a light on one of our local treasures from The Hague. This time, it’s the turn of two men who keep their (80-year-old!) family business running every single day. Meet Bob and Jim from the iconic The Hague-based store Huna Camping & Outdoor.
Bob and Jim – Huna Camping & Outdoor
For anyone who grew up in The Hague, this is hardly a hidden treasure. Huna has been a household name in the city for 80 years. Behind the shopfront on Regentesseplein lies a dream world for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers. With top-quality gear and unmatched service from this proud Hague family, we thought it was high time to give them some extra attention in this special anniversary year.

You’ve been around for 80 years—congratulations! Any memorable moments?
Our 80th anniversary was definitely one of those memorable moments. It happened to fall on our mother’s birthday, who sadly passed away recently. She was truly the driving force behind the shop—and the queen of the square, as many called her. People in the neighborhood know us as “the Huna boys,” although we’ve long outgrown the “boys” part. Realizing that we hold such a special place in the city—and that we get to carry on this iconic Hague store into the future—means a lot to us.
Speaking of the future: what are your hopes and goals?
Now that Mum is no longer with us, it feels like we’ve lost so much. She was always on the move, full of plans, and knew everyone. It really feels like more than one person is gone. So yes, there’s work to be done. Luckily, we’ve got some new (female) forces joining the team, and we’re more motivated than ever to push forward with Huna.
Have you seen our new logo, by the way? It’s based on old sketches of the shop that we recently rediscovered.
What do you like about Haagse Schatten?
Local is everything! We love that it gets the spotlight it deserves. Just around us here on the Weimarstraat, there are so many passionate entrepreneurs—and quite a few of them are also part of this great initiative. We always choose local ourselves whenever we can. Because local means craftsmanship, knowledge, and personal attention. And that just happens to be what Huna is known for too!
