In this monthly column, we highlight one of our The Hague treasures. In addition to bringing attention to local entrepreneurs, we value shining a light on local initiatives. One of our charities is the Ronald McDonald House. In October, they’ll celebrate their 25th anniversary. Time to get acquainted with the treasures behind this organization!
Nadeche, Joyce en Rachel – Ronald McDonald Huis
At the Ronald McDonald House The Hague, families of children admitted to the Juliana Children’s Hospital stay. The house provides a warm home where parents can escape daily worries while staying close to their sick child. We take care of fundraising, facilities, and communication, and with a team of 140 fantastic volunteers, we run the house. We receive no government support and rely entirely on donors, sponsors, and volunteers. It’s amazing how many Haagse Schatten gift cards we have received as donations over the years !
What makes your work so special?
No day is ever the same here, and every day something happens that leaves a lasting impression. When your child is in the hospital, daily tasks become a challenge, and small gestures take on great significance. We work alongside 140 volunteers who keep the Ronald McDonald House and the Living Rooms in the children’s wards running every day. That is an absolute honor.
What does it mean for you to be a The Hague treasure?
The gift cards we receive as donations through Haagse Schatten are invaluable because we truly depend on gifts. A night’s stay costs €75, of which parents pay €15. The rest comes from donations. By being visible on the treasure map, website, and social media of Haagse Schatten, people really know how to find us.
Which fellow The Hague treasure do you visit often?
We recently held our thank-you gathering for our HomeSporters at Strandhuis Maví. A wonderful spot on the beach. The beach really brings together all the beauty of The Hague.
