In this monthly column we spotlight one of our entrepreneurs each time. And we thought: new year, new hair. That’s why we asked Jacqueline, owner of Vita Hair and, if you ask us, the nicest hairdresser in The Hague a few questions. Read along!
Jacqueline – Vita Hair
The hair salon where everything is just right: the serene interior, great products, conversations with the nicest hairdresser in the city and of course a beautifully styled haircut! Vita Hair’s motto is “We make hairstories,” and that couldn’t be more true. From the moment you step inside, your experience begins. Jacqueline thinks along with you about the possibilities for your hair, offers bold options and pays that little bit of extra attention to the details that ensure a hairstyle that perfectly suits your face.
What did your path to Vita Hair look like?
From a young age I already knew I wanted to become a hairdresser. At seventeen I started working as an employee and then spent many years doing the job with great pleasure. At a certain point, though, I started to feel restless. I felt that I could and wanted to do more. The idea of having my own salon became more and more concrete. Even before I actually started two years ago, I already had a complete business plan, branding and a clear concept worked out. I knew exactly what it had to be: a small, luxury boutique salon with a personal atmosphere.
The search for the right location took some time, but eventually I came across an old garage in the Nieuwe Schoolstraat, behind the Denneweg. Together with an interior architect, I had it completely renovated. It was a major investment and therefore exciting, but fortunately it turned out to be the right choice. From day one it has been going incredibly well. In fact, business is going so well that there is currently a temporary client stop, but keep an eye on my socials because there may be room again soon.
Why is Vita Hair called Vita Hair?
The name has a very personal story. During my pregnancy, I had Vita in mind as a girl’s name. In the end, I had two sons and no longer needed the name. I still found it a strong, beautiful and powerful name that perfectly suited my boutique salon. A bonus was that the website and socials were still available.
Which The Hague treasures do you personally like to visit?
I love visiting other Hague treasures. We regularly go to Strandhuis Maví. The trampoline is a favourite with my sons and the pizzas are delicious. I also really like Bennies Playcare, especially because of the activities for kids. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of those! On my list to visit again soon are SevenHouse and Charlie’s Fika. Both are lovely, cosy coffee spots where I would like to settle down more often.
