Tijd voor Fika!

On this very gray, very wet Wednesday afternoon in November, Charlie’s Fika opened on Goudsbloemlaan. Our Eefje was there—and she was definitely not the only one.

The cinnamon buns were flying off the shelves, the café was packed, and (perhaps because of the stormy weather outside) it felt super cozy and completely immersed in Swedish vibes. And to think that until recently, Charlie was still baking from her own little kitchen and selling her creations via Instagram. Now she runs her very own Bageri-kafé & lite till (bakery–café & a little more) on Goudsbloemlaan.

Fika?

Charlie’s Fika is a place inspired by the Swedish feeling that makes her so warm and happy:
“All my life, I’ve been visiting my family in Sweden, where I have so many wonderful memories. The freedom of the beautiful nature, the delicious food, the loving people, and yet also the different way of life. Baking is a big part of the culture in Sweden. Swedes take several coffee breaks with something sweet every day. That’s called a Fika. A Fika is more than just a break. It’s a tradition that connects people, a real moment to pause and enjoy.”

So off to Goudsbloemlaan for that Fika, a real coffee break, just like the Swedes do it. And while Fika is often more about the company and conversation than the coffee and cake itself, the coffee and cake better be top quality 😉

We’d stake our reputation on the fact that Charlie nails that quality and we highly recommend the saffron buns: perfectly in season and incredibly tasty!
