Sometimes you have those mornings when everything is good: the sun is shining and it promises to be a delightful spring day in our beautiful city behind the dunes. And this morning, I also get to go on a ‘work visit’ to our the Hague treasure, Maví. Riding my bike through the Westduinpark and make my way over the dunes at beach entrance 7. I’m greeted by other early birds, and I feel right at home when owner Martine welcomes me and brings me a cup of coffee.
Well begun is half done
Somewhat cliché, but nothing untrue: start your day well and the rest of the day will follow suit. And how can it be better than with your face in the sun and your feet in the sand at Beach House Maví? They serve delicious breakfasts and good coffee here every day starting at 9 o’clock in the morning. By the way, everything on the menu looks good.
A glance at the menu tells me that there are all sorts of special snacks to order, of high quality, and that various dietary requirements are taken into account. Martine tells me about their specialty, the ‘hotdogtopus’, a successful variant on the hotdog, but with an octopus on your bun! What a discovery.
While we’re chatting away, all sorts of things are happening in the early morning. A group gathers for a relaxing yoga session on the beach (gather every day at 10 o’clock! Want to join? Sign up for the Beach Bliss Strandyoga WhatsApp group), runners grab a nice cup after their run through the dunes, and people hop on a SUP. At Maví, they collaborate with the local entrepreneurs from Surf Nature Surf&SUP school, so you can also book a nice active surfing lesson or rent a board!
At home by the sea
How do we best describe the atmosphere at Maví? It actually feels a bit like coming home. Or even better: visiting good friends where you feel at home ánd are pampered. On the terrace, there are friendly beach visitors from the neighborhood wishing each other good morning, owners Martine and Bram are (almost!) always there and open for a pleasant chat, and there are lovely (and handsome) people working here. The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and cozy. Nothing about ‘seeing and being seen’. You get the feeling that at Maví, you can just relax and be yourself.
At Maví, there’s always a spot, just as it should be on the beach. Drift in and stay as long as you can. Even on busy days, you can drop by without a reservation. They’ll simply pull up an extra chair somewhere.
Honestly, you never want to leave here. But of course, work needs to be done… So I hop back on my bike towards our Hague Treasures HQ. However, I’m sure that on the next free morning, I’ll dash back to Maví. Because it’s clear: here, you start your day more than well!
Martine’s tip: Why not combine the relaxed beach atmosphere with the work that needs to be done? At Maví, they also have a nice meeting space! In one of the sea containers next to the beach tent, you can simply gather with your colleagues for a good meeting, get a lot of work done, and then head straight for drinks. Great idea!
Feeling like a relaxing morning? Hop on your bike and ride through the dunes for a delightful breakfast and some time for yourself at Beach House Maví. And make it a whole day affair, if your schedule allows it 😉 Don’t forget to bring your Haagse Schatten gift card along. Because it’s usable here too!
