Daylight Saving Time: Time for Summer Activities

This weekend, daylight saving time kicks in again. In this blog, we’re sharing some great summer activities in to enjoy now that the days are getting longer.

Thursday 27 March 2025

How did daylight saving time work again? Do we move the clock forward or backward? Here’s a trick to remember it once and for all: it’s springtime, so the clock springs forward. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, exactly at 02:00, you can set your clock one hour ahead. That night will, logically, be one hour shorter.

Alright! Enough math. For us, daylight saving time mainly means it’s time for summer activities in our beautiful The Hague. When the sun starts shining and the days get longer, we love to go outside. Of course, we head to the beach, stroll along the Scheveningen boulevard, and relax at our favorite beach bars, but there’s so much more to do! In this blog, you’ll find our tips for great (outdoor) activities at our The Hague treasures.

Le Marie Marché

Le Marie Marché perfectly embodies what we envision with The Hague treasures. It lets you experience, taste, and enjoy The Hague at its best. Stroll past countless (food) stalls with French chansons playing in the background and a glass of cider in hand. Savor delicious delicacies, browse beautiful items, and uncover true treasures. From March to December, you can find this wonderful market every first weekend of the month along the Hofvijver (De Lange Vijverberg). Additionally, it frequently travels to other stunning (The Hague) locations.

Terrace Weather!

Sheltered from the wind and basking in the sun with a good cup of coffee or a fine glass of wine. Sunglasses on and—let’s be honest, one of our favorite pastimes—people-watching! At these The Hague treasures terraces, you’re in for a treat.

Baardman

Close to The Hague Central Station, you’ll find Theresiastraat—one of the busiest and most vibrant streets in Bezuidenhout. No complaints about settling down on a sunny terrace here! If we had to recommend one, it would be Restaurant Baardman. Cozy under the awning, with a menu that’s just as delightful. Enjoy delicious sandwiches, finger food, or a full Mediterranean-style dinner.

Tommy’s & Zuurveen

Since moving to their current location, Tommy’s & Zuurveen has gained an exciting new feature—a boat! Right in front of the restaurant, floating on the Veenkade canal, you’ll find a true boat to have drinks on. Spend the afternoon soaking up the sun, gently rocking on the water, with a glass of wine in hand and tasty bites on the table. We already know where we’ll be heading when the first rays of sunshine appear!

Petit Paradis

This little paradise is tucked away on a charming square along Westeinde. Settle under the trees at one of the picnic tables. Petit Paradis is a cozy coffee and lunch spot in a charming old corner building (which we love!). They serve homemade cakes and pastries, breakfasts, sandwiches, and salads. The menu is simple and steady, prepared with love. Located right next to the entrance of the Kloostertuin, it’s the perfect place to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.

Bistro Jules

You know it—that atmospheric restaurant on the corner of Koningin Emmakade with the coziest little garden in the neighborhood. That’s Bistro Jules, a French-Swiss gem. Be surprised by their 3, 4, or 5-course menu, or order à la carte. And don’t forget the wine! Make sure to reserve a spot quickly—once you sit down here, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to la douce France. And who wouldn’t want that?

BLEND ONE

Yes, we know we’re called THE HAGUE treasures, and technically, Voorburg isn’t The Hague. But we couldn’t keep this gem from you: BLEND ONE. The perfect reason to step just outside the city limits! This cozy coffee and lunch spot, run by the Kuiper family, serves amazing sandwiches, soups, smoothies, and—of course—top-notch coffee. And with a spacious terrace, it’s well worth the short bike ride to Voorburg.

From the Water and on the Beach

The Hague Boat

Starting Saturday, April 12, 2025, it’s back on The Hague’s canals: our very own Hague boat! A boat trip with this treasure is a unique way to discover The Hague from the water. Bring along some tasty treats and hop aboard Daisy, a boat entirely hand-built by skipper Jan. Meanwhile, his wife Leonie will share fun highlights, hidden gems, and fascinating stories about the city. Sit back and relax as you cruise towards the green Westbroekpark, Scheveningen, or take a scenic loop around the city center. The choice is yours!

TrashUre Hunt

It’s hard to miss—we love the beach. Every time we feel the sand beneath our feet, settle in at a beach bar, or cycle through the dunes, we’re reminded how lucky we are to have such a beautiful “backyard.” Unfortunately, not everyone treats this special place with the care it deserves. That’s where TrashUre Hunt comes in. With passion and dedication, they work to reduce beach litter—and you can help! Join the treasure hunt, stay active in the fresh air, and make a positive impact on the world while you’re at it.

Summer on Your Plate

Eetwinkel Vork

At Vork, you’ll feel like you’re on a culinary holiday. Take a cooking workshop inspired by your favorite vacation destinations—whether it’s Italy, Spain, or France, or even further afield, exploring Japanese or Indonesian cuisine. Cooking doesn’t have to be difficult, especially when chef Udo teaches you all the tricks of the trade. His motto? “As long as you enjoy it!” Because at Vork, it’s all about creating a positive experience.

If you love cooking in a group and want to learn something new, we highly recommend these workshops. The evening starts at 7:45 PM, lasts until 10:30 PM, and costs €72.50 per person—including a welcome bite and three drinks. Vacation vibes guaranteed!

With the Wind in Your Hair

There’s nothing quite like exercising outdoors. Fresh air, the sun on your face (if you’re lucky!), pushing yourself to the limit, or feeling completely at one with nature. With summer on the way, it’s almost time for yoga on the beach again! Here are two The Hague treasures where you can roll out your mat:

Helder Yoga

This cozy yoga studio, where classes are taught in Dutch, is just a stone’s throw from the beach. And from May onwards, you can even take their classes on the sand! Join them every Friday and Sunday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM, with the sound of the waves in the background and the sand between your toes. A perfect way to wake up!

Strandhuis Maví

Maví, another treasure, also offers beach yoga. The first session kicks off on Sunday, May 12, and from then on, you can join a class every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 10:00 AM. And the best part? Afterward, you can relax with a coffee or a beachside breakfast. We can’t think of a better way to start the day…

Sporty Adventures

BLOW Beach House

BLOW was born out of a shared passion for the sea and water sports, and a desire to share it with all beach lovers. Here, you can both relax and get active. And let’s choose the active option! As the number one kitesurfing school in the Netherlands, this is the perfect spot for an energetic kitesurfing lesson.

Expect an experienced team of professional (and incredibly fun!) instructors, the most beautiful and safest kitesurfing spot in the Netherlands, right at the Zandmotor, and a lovely Beach House with a restaurant, lockers, hot showers, and a surf shop where you can hang out after the lesson.

The Shore

The Shore is perhaps more of a gathering place for surfers than a typical beach bar. You can sit outside on one of the picnic benches and enjoy an authentic cup of coffee from the Roast Factory coffee roastery. With a view of the sports beach and surrounded by surfers, there’s always something to see and do. Rent a surfboard and challenge the waves at the harbor head, or join one of the exciting events, exhibitions, music, or surf festivals they host throughout the year.

Strandpaviljoen Aloha

We can’t miss out on this lovely beach spot, even though Strandpaviljoen Aloha has been open all winter. As one of just three beach spots that can remain open in the winter, you can visit here 365 days a year! And it’s always a fun, lively place, just a stone’s throw from the Northern harbor head.

What makes Aloha so special is that it’s not just a beach bar, but also a surf school and cool shop in one. Whether you’re here for a new bikini, a lunch with a view of the sea, or your first surf lesson, we highly recommend that last one!
