Summer Holiday in The Hague with Kids

Summer holidays! Pure bliss. No alarm clocks, no school stress for the kids, the sun on your face and endless days to fill just the way you like.

Tuesday 15 July 2025

After those first relaxing days of doing absolutely nothing, the question quickly arises: What are we going to do today? Fortunately, The Hague is full of fun outings and places where both kids and adults can have a great time. Grab an ice cream, join a music workshop or settle in at the Filmhuis. In this blog, we’ll share the best spots to explore with kids this summer. Read on, get inspired and discover how much fun there is to be found right here in your own city.

Get active

Musical fun at Music Monkeys

This music school welcomes you year-round for fun and engaging music classes, even for the littlest ones. There’s a special summer program with extra classes, perfect for anyone looking for a creative, musical activity during the holidays.

You don’t need to sign up for an entire course. Just join per class. It’s flexible, easy to try and perfect for spontaneous plans during the summer break.

For young children aged 0 to 2 and 2 to 4, there are cheerful 45-minute group sessions called Playing with Music. Together with a parent or caregiver, the little ones discover sounds, rhythm and movement in a playful way. It’s a lovely way to spend time together and spark a love for music from an early age.

Anything goes at Bennies Playcare

Young heroes craving big adventures should head straight to Bennies. This is the place for creative activities, unique workshops and wildly fun parties for kids and their parents. Everything here is about quality time and doing something different.

Forget the typical craft session. Bennies goes for the unexpected, the silly and the most original ideas. Think a Superhero Run outside, complete with capes and confetti. Or a Toddler Rave in a church with disco lights and toddler-friendly beats. Maybe even drawing with a real tattoo artist or dancing at a Mini Disco while the parents relax with a glass of wine in a Spanish bodega.

This summer, the program includes the Kids Rave, Insect Safari, Circus Artist Workshop and Zumba for kids. Check the full activity calendar and head to the most exciting playcare in The Hague.

Play outside at Strandhuis Maví

Looking for a peaceful spot by the sea to relax with the whole family? Beach pavilion Maví, located on the quieter Zuiderstrand, is just the place. Leave the crowds behind, dig your toes into the sand and enjoy a chilled-out vibe, a tasty menu with great options for kids, and happy families all around you.

Maví is a truly family-friendly beach café. While you sit back with a drink, the kids can go wild on the huge trampoline and various playground equipment. And even after the summer holiday, you can keep coming back. Maví stays open until early October and always feels like a mini-vacation.

Sit Back, Watch and Listen

A Movie Outing to Filmhuis Den Haag

It’s going to be a summer full of specials at the most charming cinema in The Hague. Especially for kids, Filmhuis Den Haag is screening a wide selection of children’s films and hosting its beloved Cinemini sessions.

For many young children, Cinemini is their very first cinema experience, tailored perfectly to their needs. The lights are dimmed but not dark, the sound is gentle, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. Kids are free to move around and respond to the film, and afterward, they process what they’ve seen through play and sensory activities.

It’s the ideal place to settle into a comfy cinema seat, especially on a rainy day, and enjoy a thoughtful and playful movie moment right at Spui.

Story Time at Pluk

Every Wednesday at Pluk, kids can come and listen to wonderful storybooks during Flora Reads Aloud. Expect timeless favorites like The Rainbow Fish, Guess How Much I Love You, or The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business.

On Thursdays, Grandma Witch pays a visit with enchanting seasonal tales. She brings her magical forest suitcase and sometimes Grandpa Beekeeper or Grandpa Ukulele joins in to make story time extra special.

There’s always something to enjoy at Pluk for little ones. It’s a lovely café just on the edge of the city, surrounded by greenery and animals, with plenty of space to play. The perfect spot for coffee, cake or a tasty lunch while the kids have fun.

De Lorenzo Ijs Fahrenheit Den Haag

Tasty Treats and Sweet Moments

We Demand Ice Cream from De Lorenzo

When the sun comes out, we want ice cream. And not just any ice cream, but from De Lorenzo IJs — one of the oldest and most beloved gelato shops in The Hague. Grab a cup or a cone and go for a classic flavor like lemon, vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, pistachio or stracciatella. Feeling adventurous? Try something like M&M, limoncello, green tea, blood orange or Bastogne biscuit.

A fun extra at De Lorenzo is the Flavor of the Month, created by the customers themselves. There’s a suggestion box in the shop where you can submit your dream flavor. Each month, three flavors are picked by the ice cream makers, and the public gets to vote on Facebook. The winning flavor gets made, and the lucky creator gets their scoop for free!

One More (Sweet) Thing

Ever noticed how there’s always room for dessert? Luckily, The Hague now has its very own dessert café, complete with a sunny terrace where you can sit down and enjoy your sweet pick.

The dessert menu changes weekly. One highlight is the dessert bar, where you can fill an edible cup of yogurt with toppings of your choice. Fresh fruit, nuts and granola or, for some nostalgic fun, Smarties and mini marshmallows. You’ll also find weekly specials like homemade cakes, brownies, cheesecake-in-a-cup and artisan ice cream. Yum!

The Prettiest Treats at SevenHouse

At SevenHouse, everything is trendy and totally Instagram-worthy. They serve all kinds of coffee, matcha in flavors like mango or strawberry, homemade iced teas and refreshing lemonades. And then there’s the sweet counter, packed with shiny, tempting treats. Think croffles (a croissant–waffle combo), cruffins (croissant meets muffin), matcha cakes, crumble cookies and pastel-colored milk cakes you’ll want to snap a photo of before your first bite.

This is the perfect spot for a girls’ day out this summer. One visit to Heeswijkplein and they’ll be swooning over these gorgeous and delicious creations.
