Bites & coffees
Baking makes you happy! And Charlie knows this better than anyone. This young, half-Swedish woman bakes as if it’s her greatest joy. First from her own kitchen at home, then from her little corner in an ice cream shop in Benoordenhout, and now, recently, in her very own bakery: a Bageri-kafé & lite till (bakery–café & a little more) on Goudsbloemlaan.
According to family recipes…
… and even better. The delicious Kanelbulle (cinnamon buns), Kardemummabulle (cardamom buns), Hasselnöts topp (hazelnut meringue cookies) and other treats partly come from Charlie’s old recipe book, filled with baking recipes from friends and family that her mother collected while growing up in Sweden. But Charlie knows best, she’s incredibly dedicated and passionate about perfecting each recipe. This baker never shies away from a challenge; she adapts recipes and develops her own creations every single day!
A little piece of Sweden in The Hague
Charlie’s Fika is a place inspired by the Swedish feeling that makes Charlie so warm and happy:
“All my life, I’ve been visiting my family in Sweden, where I have so many wonderful memories. The freedom of the beautiful nature, the delicious food, the loving people, and also the different way of life. Baking is a big part of the culture in Sweden. Swedes take several coffee breaks with something sweet every day, that’s called a Fika. A Fika is more than just a break. It’s a tradition that connects people. A real moment to pause and enjoy.”
So head to Goudsbloemlaan for that Fika, a real coffee break, just like the Swedes do it.
