For all our fellow curly-haired folks, this must be a familiar struggle: finding and keeping that one hairdresser who brings your curls back to life, or tames them and cuts them exactly the way you want. In my experience, the hairdressers you trust with your curls can be pretty hard to find. Until now. Because we present to you: Haagse Krul.
A haircut in a garden house
With my hair tied up in a bun and my curls ‘slightly’ (a bit of an understatement) neglected, I ring the doorbell on Nicolaas Tulpstraat. Zyra gives me the warmest welcome. The first thing I look at is (you’ll never guess!) her curls. And does she have curls! “Wow, I want this too, and I have a feeling I’m in good hands,” I think to myself.
In her mother’s backyard, Zyra has transformed a cute little garden house into a mini salon. And so I settle into the hairdresser’s chair, surrounded by greenery. What a lovely vibe right from the start.
A passion for curls
Zyra asks me all about my curls. What products do I use? What do I do to my curls (very little!)? How do I sleep? Okay. It quickly becomes clear that this girl takes both her profession and my hair seriously. Not in an annoying way, but with genuine passion, knowledge and love for curls. We chat about the studies she combines with cutting hair, Haagse Schatten and all sorts of other things. What a lovely place, and what a lovely person.
Officially a The Hague treasure
Without even consulting the rest of the team, the unanimous decision was made right there in that hairdresser’s chair: this is a Haagse treasure. And so, that very afternoon, the little garden house proudly got its ‘Officially a Haagse schat’ sticker, while Zyra’s mum came outside to capture our new collaboration on camera. Curls everywhere!
