On a stormy summer morning, I bike towards our new The Hague treasure, Helder Yoga, to join a class! Hatha yoga is on the agenda. A quick Google search tells me that “the goal of Hatha Yoga is to balance the body and mind by harmonizing the sun and moon energies within the body.” Let’s see how that’s going to work out.
Owner Rachel is already inside and personally welcomes everyone. Almost everyone is greeted by name, and I immediately feel very welcome and relaxed. The yoga studio is quite new, making it very bright, clean, and pleasant. It has nice changing rooms and two spacious studios where the yoga classes are held. If you don’t have your own yoga mat, you can borrow one, as well as other equipment like cork blocks, cushions, and blankets.
Time for yourself
Afterwards, Rachel tells me she never thought she would run her own yoga studio. Yoga came into her life later on: “I was stressed out for the umpteenth time and something needed to change. I started with yoga, and from my very first class, I knew this was good for me and it hasn’t let me go since.” She decided to delve into yoga and completed various trainings. That’s how the idea for Helder Yoga was quickly born.
She wanted to share yoga and its benefits with as many people as possible: “I sold my house in Amsterdam and quit my sales job to make my dream a reality. I moved from Amsterdam to The Hague and found the perfect spot for the studio here. By the harbor in Scheveningen and close to the beach!”
Down-to-earth
What makes Helder Yoga unique is its down-to-earth approach. The classes are conducted in Dutch, creating a less esoteric atmosphere and a more grounded experience. There’s no background music—just Rachel’s soothing voice guiding you through the poses. After the class, some people stick around to chat, and we all leave feeling refreshed (and yes, with a body and mind in balance) and ready to continue our day.
Looking for relaxation, balance, and harmony? Or a boost of new energy? We highly recommend hopping on your bike and heading to the Vissershaven in Scheveningen to step through the door at Helder Yoga. We promise: you’ll be in good hands here.
