And that’s exactly the feeling that owner Ysabel wants to convey. It wasn’t always a joyous journey. During a trip to Australia, Ysabel was involved in a serious car accident. Extensive rehabilitation was needed, and due to the brain injury she sustained, she couldn’t simply return to her old life and habits.

When life gives you lemons, make Limonada

Through the Edwin van der Sar Foundation, an organization that supports young people with brain injuries, Ysabel was connected with a job coach. It quickly became apparent that working one hour per week was the maximum achievable. However, being creative turned out to be one of the few things she could still do, and it brought her satisfaction. Instead of undergoing months-long slow processes, she found fulfillment in tangible projects with a beautiful and enjoyable outcome at the end of the day: making a lamp. “I started Studio Limonada back then because I had to give my life a different direction. But now, I also hope to inspire people to choose something they truly enjoy and that gives them energy every day. With my lamps, I want to convey that no matter what happens, you can always give life a positive twist.”

Studio Limonada proves that with a positive attitude, you can go far. In no time, they had a website and a highly followed Instagram page. As the brand grew, orders started coming in from all over the world. Despite the many (online) followers and popularity, it remains a cozy atmosphere in the Hague studio, and Ysabel personally handles each design. Together with you, she selects the most beautiful fabrics, from luxury designers like Pierre Frey, Manuel Canovas, and Jim Thompson, to fabrics from African countries or silk Ikat from Uzbekistan. You can also endlessly vary and personalize trimmings and linings. She puts as much love into making your lamp as she did into those first lamps she made at her grandma’s attic.
