In this monthly column, we highlight one of our entrepreneurs each time. As we slowly leave winter behind, the first Marie Marché of the year is approaching. Mark March 1 and 2 in your calendar! To get into the mood, we spoke with Marie-France, the treasure behind this The Hague treasure.
Marie-France – Le Marie Marché
Le Marie Marché perfectly embodies what we envision with Haagse Schatten. You can taste, experience, and enjoy the best of The Hague (and in this case, a touch of France too). From March to December, you’ll find this delightful market on the first weekend of every month along the Hofvijver (De Lange Vijverberg). They also regularly travel to other beautiful (Hague) locations.

How Did Le Marie Marché Come to Be?
After living in Amsterdam for quite some time, I moved back to The Hague. I’ve always loved markets, and Amsterdam had such a wide variety, but The Hague was a bit lacking in that regard at the time. That’s how Le Marie Marché started, almost ten years ago. At an iconic location: the Pier of Scheveningen! I began as an intern, joined the opening team, and things grew from there.
Nowadays, Le Marie Marché sets up monthly at De Lange Vijverberg, and I’m always on the lookout for beautiful new locations. What once started with just a handful of stalls — where I mainly had to call people asking if they’d like to join — has grown to 70 stalls, and now people call me asking if there’s still a spot available! I’m actually quite proud of that. I dare to say that out loud now.
We Often Say a Haagse Schat Is a Place Worth Going Out of Your Way For. Why Should We Make the Detour for Le Marie Marché?
For the participants! So many special people with their own unique products are present at the market. More and more young artists and creatives are finding their way to us as well, all with their own unique stories. So be sure to have a chat with the participants — it will make your visit even more enjoyable!
Every edition features new people and products, so no matter how often you visit, you’ll always discover something new. Oh, and don’t forget the delicious food and live music! 😉
Starting in March, Le Marie Marché will be at De Lange Vijverberg on the first weekend of each month. Check the website for exact dates and other locations of The Hague’s coziest market.
