In this corner building on a cosy little square near Vondelstraat, owner Esma rolls up her sleeves from Wednesday to Sunday. She serves up great coffee and fresh tea, bakes the most delicious treats and can tell you all about good, nutritious food, which you can also buy here. What a lovely place!

You may already know that we have a soft spot for corner buildings. And with Jar48, we can add another one to our list of favourites. Thanks to the windows all around, the cosy little square out front, the welcoming interior with a large communal table and bar by the window, and all the colourful products displayed on the shelves, this place immediately feels warm and inviting.

Meanwhile, you’re tempted by the smell of freshly baked treats coming from Esma’s little kitchen, surrounded by cool artwork from local artists and rows of bottles of natural wine and cider, all sporting the most beautiful labels.

And we haven’t even mentioned Jar48’s owner herself. Her warmth and hospitality may well be the most important ingredient in what makes this such a lovely place.
