Are you, just like us, always on the lookout for the most fun, best, and most creative restaurants in The Hague? A place where you can let go of everything and be pampered from start to finish? A varied menu, matching wines, and a great atmosphere? We hereby nominate our The Hague treasure, Tommy’s and Zuurveen, for a spot on your list of favorite restaurants in the city!
Everything here is just right thanks to the two enthusiastic owners. Childhood friends Teun Zuurveen and Tom Jansen run the show. One is a sommelier and host, the other a chef. It turns out they make a top duo. After a few years in a cozy little spot not far from the current location, they moved to this more spacious venue in 2023. And even here, it’s cozy, thanks to the warm atmosphere with the large bar in the middle of the space and the warm welcome from host Tom. Chef Teun and his team still cook up delicious dishes in the new establishment.
Chef’s menu
The chef’s menu is carefully crafted from fresh seasonal ingredients. You can start with as few as three courses. Prefer a full evening out? Then you’ll be treated to a delightful seven-course meal. Optionally, with a matching wine arrangement. Will you opt for fresh bread with creamy butter, a little oyster to start, or a classic shrimp croquette with harissa mayo? Followed by langoustine, sea urchin with citrus and XO sauce? Or perhaps an (always good) burrata with zucchini and basil? You can vary to your heart’s content and challenge yourself as much as you like, culinary-wise. For dessert, among other options, there’s a real lambada strawberry with champagne, vanilla, and magnolia on the menu. That should please everyone’s palate, shouldn’t it?
Onboard!
Since the move to the larger premises, Tommy’s & Zuurveen has added a great feature. Right in front of their door, in the water of the Veenkade, lies a real boat. You could call it a drinks cruise boat. Because here, you can sit in the sun all afternoon, gently swaying with a glass of wine in your hand and a delicious snack on the table, on a Hague canal. We know where we’ll be heading for the next drinks when the first rays of sun break through. And if it gets a bit cooler? You can just as easily move indoors for a continuation with delicious dishes and matching wines.
Tommy’s & Zuurveen are open every(!) day from 12 to 10 for lunch and dinner.
So, grab that Haagse Schatten gift card and head to the Veenkade. Or gift the card to someone you think deserves an afternoon on the drinks cruise boat or an evening of fine dining at Tommy’s & Zuurveen!
