We can hardly imagine you haven’t heard of this place yet. Unlike some of our other The Hague treasures, Filmhuis Den Haag is well-known as a location. But what you can do, see, eat, and experience there is still a true discovery for many. So, in this blog, we introduce you to Filmhuis Den Haag.
As the title suggests, the Filmhuis is much more than just a white screen. It is a cultural meeting place, has a restaurant with a view of The Hague’s skyline, hosts cool events throughout the year, and is also one of those places where you can simply plop down with your laptop and a cup of tea to get some work done between appointments.
The Filmhuis is buzzing
Filmhuis Den Haag is a vibrant place. A place where people come together. A place that feels welcoming as soon as you step over the threshold. A place where you can soak up some culture in a very accessible way. And the best part: Filmhuis Den Haag keeps surprising you! No visit to the Filmhuis is the same. We’re not just talking about the diverse programming but also the ever-changing menu of the restaurant (which is open every day, by the way).
Want to learn more about film and film history? Then you should definitely check out the film library housed here. Thousands of books, a large collection of magazines, thousands of reviews from 1935 to the present, and hundreds of folders with clippings and photos are stored here. Note! The library is only open by appointment, and the materials are not available for loan.
Boutique cinema
In addition to five comfortable regular theaters, Filmhuis Den Haag has a very special screening room. Theater 6 is a true boutique cinema! With cozy chairs, poufs, benches, and cushions, you’ll feel extra snug here. It almost feels like home. Though, of course, the sound and picture quality are ten times better than from your own couch.
From festivals to film special
At the Filmhuis, there’s plenty to see! In addition to the regular programming and a fringe program at many film screenings, there are often specials at the Filmhuis. This ranges from film screenings with Q&A sessions to film pub quizzes or outdoor cinema events. You can also sink into the plush seats here for film festivals like the Movies that Matter Festival and the Surf Film Night Festival. Educational programs and talent development are also highly valued at the Filmhuis, providing a platform for young filmmakers from The Hague.
How fun would it be to gift an evening at the Filmhuis with our Haagse Schatten gift card? Because, of course, you can also redeem your Haagse Schatten gift card at this The Hague treasure. Please note: at the moment, you can only redeem the gift card physically at the box office for a film ticket, not online.
