Make Your Own Silver Clay Ring!

There’s a truly remarkable material called silver clay. Just like regular clay, you can shape it any way you like. The magic happens when it is fired at a very high temperature, transforming it into solid silver.

At The Hague Treasure MAAK. atelier, you’ll use silver clay to craft your own ring during a hands-on workshop. Fleur guides you through every step of the process, from shaping the clay and adding texture to setting colourful gemstones, firing the clay, and carefully finishing and polishing your ring.

After just two hours, you’ll leave with a beautiful sterling silver ring that you made yourself.

Step by Step

When you arrive, everything you need will be neatly laid out and ready for you: a pack of silver clay, a variety of tools, and ring sizers to find your perfect fit. You’ll also receive a handy guide that lets you follow along with everything Fleur explains and demonstrates during the workshop.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Making your own silver ring starts with finding the perfect size. Once you’ve measured your finger, you’ll mark the correct size on a wooden mandrel, which will serve as your workstation for the next steps.

Next, you’ll roll the silver clay into a thin strand and wrap it around the mandrel, shaping it into your desired design. You can also choose to add colourful gemstones. It takes a steady hand, but it’s wonderfully relaxing and satisfying to focus on the tiny details.

Turning Clay into Silver

Once you’re happy with your design, it’s time for the magic to happen. The ring is fired at a very high temperature, causing the silver clay to harden and transform into solid silver.

After firing, you can sand, polish and refine your ring until it’s perfectly smooth and beautifully shiny. Before you know it, your one of a kind silver ring is ready to wear.
