Almost better than dining out? Breakfast out!
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day—so we like to make the most of it. Our favourite way to start the morning? A leisurely breakfast at a local spot, preferably out on a sunny terrace or tucked away in nature. And with warmer weather on the horizon, we’ll be taking full advantage. Here are 7 of our favourite places for a delicious breakfast out in The Hague.
#1 The Bij Keuken
Topping our list is our very own Aafke with her mouthwatering homemade breakfasts. You’ll find her cosy spot, De Bij Keuken, on Columbusstraat. You can grab a seat (don’t forget to book!), pick up your breakfast to go, or even have it delivered to your doorstep. This local treasure starts her mornings early, whipping up fresh new breakfast menus each week. And in summer, Aafke’s breakfast creations pop up in special spots across the city—how about a hidden garden at the Mesdag Collection Museum?
#2 SamSam Noordeinde
Terrible at making decisions? SamSam is your place. Here, you can split your breakfast and share different dishes—SamSam style. Prefer to keep it all to yourself? Go for an acai bowl, a chocolate bowl, or Greek yoghurt with homemade granola. You’ll also find perfect eggs, French toast, toasties, and smoothies… We warned you: choice overload incoming!
#3 Suiderstrand
Summer is in full swing, which means it’s the perfect time to kick off your day with a beachside breakfast. Toes in the sand, eyes on the horizon… it doesn’t get more relaxing than this. The menu is full of tempting choices: a generous breakfast board (served till 12:00), an acai bowl, a croissant, a classic Dutch uitsmijter, or maybe those irresistible pancakes (served till 16:00!). And good news: this local treasure stays open well into October, so there’s plenty of time to come back and try it all.

Yes, yes, yes—you’ll find the best pancakes here. Organic, honest, and the perfect fuel for a surf session (which is a must while you’re at this surf haven on the Hague coast). At The Shore, you’ll also find fresh smoothies, chill music, and seriously good coffee. And not just any coffee—our friends at Roast Factory supply the beans. And coffee made with beans from this local treasure? You won’t find it just anywhere.
#5 Petit Paradis
Tucked away on a leafy little square off the otherwise grey Westeinde, you’ll find Petit Paradis. The menu features delicious homemade cakes and tarts, tasty breakfasts, fresh sandwiches, and healthy salads. Overslept? No worries. Their popular ‘12-o’clock special’—a combo of soup and a well-filled sandwich—is perfect for late risers. What really sets this place apart is its mission. Petit Paradis is part of Stichting 488, a social initiative working to build a supportive community in the heart of The Hague. Impressively, at least 50% of its revenue goes to crisis shelter and recovery programs for vulnerable girls in the city. How beautiful is that?
#6 Pompke
Homemade cakes and cookies, lovingly brewed coffee, and mouthwatering wraps and toasties—all freshly prepared in the tiniest of kitchens inside this adorable little building. After ordering at the hatch, you’ll take your tray of treats to a spot on the terrace at the edge of the forest. Be sure to take in your surroundings: funny quotes, cosy corners, and lush plants give Pompke its unique and welcoming charm. You’ll definitely want to come back.
#7 Café Loft
A meeting place inside the old Jerusalem Church in the Vruchtenbuurt, where great food, yoga, and art come together. With a fantastic terrace where you can soak up the sun early in spring and still enjoy warm rays late into the autumn. The menu? Absolutely mouthwatering. Think sourdough with avocado, feta, pomegranate, and a soft-boiled egg. Or a giant roll filled with pulled jackfruit, crunchy corn, and lime. Craving a big breakfast? Try the burger or a slice of quiche. A true hidden treasure and one of our top picks!
