The end of summer is near, but we’re giving you a great reason to head to The Hague’s beach one more time: the sustainable Art Route along The Hagues coastline by TrashUre Hunt. Twelve sustainable artworks, all made from materials found on the beach.
The sustainable art route follows 12 beach entrances along The Hague’s coastline. Starting from beach exit 1 at the Zandmotor (and The Hague treasure BLOW) to beach exit 12 at La Cantina and the Zuiderhavenhoofd. At each entrance, you’ll find a unique artwork entirely made from collected materials, gathered by thousands of participants who took part in the TrashUre Hunts over the years.
The route is almost 7.5 kilometers long, so it’s time to grab your walking shoes! Or hop on your bike. And don’t forget to take a break now and then to relax at one of The Hague’s beach treasures: De Kwartel, Maví of Suiderstrand.
At each beach exit, you’ll find a different artwork created from all the trash found on the beaches. These materials were sorted, counted, and transformed into these beautiful pieces over the past summer. Every piece was collected from nature by human hands, preventing it from ending up in the sea.
Since 2013, TrashUre Hunt has been encouraging everyone to contribute to a cleaner and more enjoyable living environment. By organizing fun activities and events, they remove as many lost “TrashUres” (trash treasures) from nature as possible. On average, 10,000 people join a TrashUre Hunt each year!
Each artwork is created around the theme of the North Sea and the dunes, and as you can see, it’s designed for you to stick your head through. Nice and interactive! So, take a picture with it and share it on your socials using #trashurehunt. This way, you’ll contribute even more to raising awareness about litter and the importance of clean nature in your own environment!
On the back of each artwork, there’s a brief explanation and fun facts about the depicted animal and the materials used. For example, with these sharks made from found cans, you can read that tin and aluminum are infinitely recyclable. Since the introduction of a deposit on cans, 90% fewer cans have been found on the beach!
The aim of this sustainable art route is to engage visitors in a fun and accessible way to encourage them to contribute to a clean living environment. Because a clean beach is something we all want, right?
