Something we’ve been looking forward to all winter: enjoying a cup of coffee or a beer out in the sun again. And preferably with our feet in the sand and the sound of waves in the background. Always having trouble choosing which beach bar is the best? We’ll list a few for you, ones we can also call a The Hague treasure!
Southward!
It’s a bit of a bike ride, heading south towards Kijkduin, but it’s worth it. Because at Suiderstrand, it’s always summer. Once you settle down here, you’ll never want to leave. And fortunately, you don’t have to! Suiderstrand is open seven days a week from early until late. And we wouldn’t find it odd if after your coffee and breakfast, you decide to stick around for a lunch that seamlessly transitions into happy hour!
Open: from March 15, 2024 (but maybe even this week… if you’ve seen the weather forecast for Thursday, you’ll understand that they’re working hard). Keep an eye on their social media for updates.
Short but sweet
The smallest and, in our opinion, the most laid-back beach club in Scheveningen: The Shore. A meeting place for surfers, surf enthusiasts, and other lovely beachgoers. From cultural activities to surf lessons for young and old, along with the mega tasty pancakes paired with a delightful cup from The Roast Factory… You can hang out for hours at The Shore. And did you know the whole place is self-sustaining? So, they also score sustainability points!
Open: from March 23, 2024 (and if luck is on their side, maybe a bit earlier). And don’t miss the always vibrant opening party on April 13! Check their social media for details, tickets, and other events.
365 Days of Summer
Beach treasure Aloha was one of the few that remained open during the winter months, and we count ourselves lucky every time because of it! But it’s even cozier now as the temperatures rise and the sun starts shining. What makes Aloha so special is that it’s a beach club, a surf school, and a cool shop all rolled into one. Whether you’re there for a new bikini, a lunch with a view of the sea, or your first surf lesson, Aloha is the place to be. Updates about the beach club, surf school, and surf shop can be found on their social media. So be sure to follow them!
Open: all year round!
Dining by the Sea
At Beach Access 9, on our favorite Southern Beach, you’ll find one of the oldest beach pavilions on The Hague coast. A place where historical coziness and contemporary hospitality come together. Here, you can truly enjoy a delicious dinner by the sea. De Kwartel can undoubtedly be called a true beachside restaurant. The menu offers something for everyone: meat, fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes, and lactose- or gluten-free options.
Open: From early March (often the first of all the erected beach clubs!) until late in the summer. Seven days a week from 9 in the morning until late at night. Keep an eye on their social media for special events and the latest updates.
Chilling Out All Day
At Beach House Maví, just a little away from the hustle and bustle at Beach Access 6 and 7, you’ll never want to leave. If you come here in the morning for your morning swim and your cup of coffee, chances are you’ll settle in and never leave. Maví is cozy and relaxed. Owners Bram and Martine love good food, chatting, having drinks, and snacking just as much as we do. So, you know it’s going to be good!
Open: From March 28 until sometime in September. Check their social media for precise details and fun updates about activities and parties.
Treasure Hunting
It’s no surprise that we at Haagse Schatten are fans of treasure hunting. So, how exciting is it that you can hunt for litter with our friends from TrashUre Hunt? The folks at TrashUre Hunt put their heart and soul into combating litter on the beach and elsewhere. They raise awareness about environmental issues in an accessible, effective, and playful way. Additionally, they turn the found treasures into artworks that are displayed on the beach.
And we believe that deserves recognition. That’s why TrashUre Hunt is one of the charitable causes of Haagse Schatten. You can even donate your gift card. Just send an email to info@trashurehunt.org!
Follow and tag @trashurehunt on Instagram or use the hashtag #beahero. They love to see what your treasure hunt has yielded!
At all these The Hague treasures, you can exchange your Haagse Schatten gift card for a snack or a drink on the sunny terrace (or of course, comfortably indoors, if the Dutch summer decides to take its time). Consider giving it as a gift to a fellow beach lover! Success guaranteed.
