Buitentoetjes

A brilliant idea from The Hague treasure Aafke! Ending your day with a little outing for dessert! What’s not to love?

Bites & coffees

Do you have this too? Somehow, no matter how full you are after dinner, there’s always room for dessert. Aafke felt the same way, which is why she opened her dessert café earlier this summer. For years, she spoiled us with her outdoor breakfasts, but now she’s there for us at the end of the day with her delicious bakes and wildly creative edible creations.

Dessert Bar

The dessert menu changes weekly, but one thing you can always count on is the dessert bar. Grab an (edible) cup of yogurt and top it just the way you like it: fresh fruit, nuts, granola, or just like when you were a kid, Smarties and mini marshmallows.
There are also weekly specials, like homemade cakes, brownies or loaf cakes, cheesecake-in-a-cup, and house-made ice cream.
I can highly recommend the banana peanut butter ice cream with a banana chunk – a piece of frozen banana coated in dark chocolate. I’ve been dreaming about it for days.

When spring comes…

Starting in spring, we can once again enjoy breakfasts outdoors. You’ll be able to pick up a breakfast crate filled with outdoor chairs, thermos flasks of coffee and tea, breakfast boxes, cutlery, cups, and fresh juices, then head out into nature for a relaxing meal. The collaboration with Hague treasure The Hague Boat will also resume, allowing you to enjoy a fresh breakfast while cruising through The Hague’s canals.

This summer, the Museum Garden breakfasts are expected to return. A wonderful collaboration between the Bij Keuken and The Mesdag Collection museum, where you can enjoy a peaceful Sunday breakfast right in the middle of the city with a stunning view of the Peace Palace from the museum’s garden. Another fantastic idea!

And who knows what Aafke will come up with in the future!
