Theater de Regentes
This is truly one of the most unusual places where you’ll ever find a theatre. Behind a deceptively small façade on Weimarstraat, an entire cultural world opens up inside what used to be yes really a swimming pool. More than a hundred years ago, the building opened as the largest indoor pool in Europe. In 1995, the pool sadly had to close, but fortunately it found a new life as a vibrant venue for performances, festivals, workshops, and much more.
A theatre for the whole neighbourhood
Theater De Regentes is a warm bath, pun intended, for visitors, local residents, emerging talents and established artists alike. All of this is made possible by over a hundred dedicated volunteers who keep things running day in, day out.
For the very youngest audiences, there are the much loved ukkieconcerts, concerts specially designed for toddlers. Meanwhile, neighbours and culture lovers can enjoy a surprising and diverse programme of performances. The theatre is also often the beating heart of larger city wide festivals and events.
What truly sets this place apart is how the neighbourhood itself becomes part of the programme. The many cultures of the area are reflected on stage, and productions are often created together with local residents. At Theater De Regentes, there is no distance between maker and audience, just a shared space where stories come to life.

Seen a great performance you’d like to attend using your Haagse Schatten gift card? Simply get in touch with the box office of Theater De Regentes by calling 070-2119988 or emailing kassa@theaterderegentes.nl. They’ll reserve a seat for you in advance. You can then hand in your gift card at the box office to pay for your ticket.
Please note that the Haagse Schatten gift card cannot be used for performances labelled as “guest productions.” It can, of course, be used for all other performances, workshops, and special events.
