The Hague beach treasures

Every year, we look forward to it: starting in March, the beach pavilions on The Hague’s beaches can begin setting up. Because if there’s one thing that makes our city so unique, it’s the beach and the fact that you can enjoy a delicious bite and drink with your feet in the sand.

We’re hoping for an early spring and a long summer so we can spend many hours at our favorite beach pavilions. In this blog, you can read more about the beach treasures of The Hague and, more importantly, when they will open this year.

Blow Beach House

All the way at the southern end of the Zuiderstrand, near Kijkduin, you’ll find the southernmost beach pavilion of The Hague: BLOW Beach House. With the Zandmotor (Sand Engine) in its front yard, this cozy beach club, including a kite school, is the home base for water sports enthusiasts! After your kite session, crash down with a cold beer (just like the guys in the photo below) or a delicious pizza from the wood-fired oven!

BLOW will celebrate its soft opening on March 14, 2025, with the tastiest pizzas, fresh brews, and juices. Starting March 21, they’ll be fully open with the complete menu.

Suiderstrand

On the (as you’d expect) Zuiderstrand near Kijkduin, you’ll find Suiderstrand. Here, you’ll momentarily forget that you’re in The Hague! With cheerful umbrellas, a relaxed atmosphere, and a delicious menu, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation. From early morning to late evening, Suider is the perfect place to hang out!

Suiderstrand will reopen the weekend of March 15, 2025. So, hop on your bike and head to beach access 2a for a true holiday vibe, great food, and excellent service.

Beach house Maví

At Maví, you can hang out all day, take a dip, and have drinks while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The menu is compact, offering delicious dishes and snacks to share. Instead of a large plate of food on your lap, it’s all about enjoying small bites together. Besides the food, the atmosphere at Maví is just as important—and delightful. There’s a kind of organized chaos. Kids happily jump on the trampoline, while we can comfortably plop down in our swimsuits on a chair.

Maví will reopen on March 27, 2025, for its second full year! With beautiful new beach beds and umbrellas, more plants, and cozy corners on the terraces.

De Kwartel

For a “restaurant by the sea,” you should head to De Kwartel on the Zuiderstrand. The extensive menu has something for everyone, from fish to meat or vegetarian options. And that’s not even mentioning the fantastic wines that Wilfred has carefully selected and serves with love (see below).

De Kwartel is, as almost every year, the first to open and is expected to be ready on the first weekend, March 8, 2025.

The Shore

This lovely spot on the Noorderstrand is a big favorite among many Hague surfers. In addition to surf lessons and board rentals, The Shore regularly organizes fun parties and events, serves up the best pancakes after your surf session, and, recently, you can enjoy delicious Indonesian street food!

The Shore aims to open in the first week of April 2025. And if the weather cooperates, it might open earlier… So, make sure to keep an eye on their social media for updates.

Aloha

We certainly can’t skip over this wonderful beach pavilion, even though Strandpaviljoen Aloha has been open all winter. As one of only three spots on the beach allowed to remain open during winter, you can visit Aloha 365 days a year! And it’s always a great time here, just a stone’s throw from the Northern harbor head.

Don’t forget to bring your Haagse Schatten gift card to the beach! With it, you can also visit all these wonderful beach pavilions.
