From April 26 to May 4, schools are closed again for a few days. Time to head out with the kids! Not planning a faraway vacation, but staying home this May break in our beautiful The Hague? Then keep reading. Because in this blog, we’re tipping you off to the best activities with out The Hague treasures.
Whether you’re going on an adventure with kids, looking for something creative to do with friends, or just want to relax a bit on your own – we got you covered!
Beach Break
A May break in The Hague of course means: beach time! Grab a seat on a sunny terrace or enjoy a refreshing walk along the coast. We previously wrote about our favourite beach treasures and helped you choose the best beach spots along the coast. And during the break, two of those treasures are hosting fun events – or even offering a full week of holiday fun:
- Wine tasting at De Kwartel! Every last Sunday of the month (so this month that’s April 27), this beach pavilion organizes a wine tasting at their wine table! Between 1 and 5 PM you can come and taste three delicious wines, and they also serve three matching amuses. And of course, you’ll get an extensive explanation from in-house sommelier Jan Willem. Fun!
- While you enjoy a glass of wine with your feet in the sand, Aloha has full-on entertainment arranged for the kids: a cool surf camp! All through the May holiday, from Monday to Friday, they’ll be taken care of from 08:30 AM to 5:00 PM. And in the evening, happily worn out 😉 Want to know more? Read it here.

Spring Fever
Start the holiday right with a relaxing activity on Friday evening, April 25. The lovely people at Helder Yoga are hosting a breathwork circle. By truly breathing deeply, you give your entire body a boost. And don’t we all deserve that? You can reserve your spot here.
- The Hague treasure Z’aha Deli is also kicking off the holiday in the best way possible with a surprise dinner on Friday, April 25. No fewer than four spring-inspired and delicious courses. All homemade and vegan!
- Simple but delightful: grab an Italian gelato at our newest addition, De Lorenzo Ice Cream. This charming ice cream parlor is one of the oldest in the city, and the traditional family recipe—handwritten in a secret recipe book—has remained unchanged and is still being used!
- Every last Wednesday of the month, it’s all about CHEESE at The Hague treasure Proefboutique. It’s always a treat here, but on this evening cheese takes center stage. Yum! This month’s Cheesy Wednesday is on April 30. You can find more information here.
- And of course, your favorite French-inspired market is back again! Le Marie Marché will be setting up on May 3 and 4 at its regular location on Lange Vijverberg. Stroll past the many (food) stalls while French chansons play in the background and a glass of cider is in your hand

Indoor Fun
What if the weather isn’t that great? No worries! Get creative, treat yourself to a fresh haircut or wellness treatment, or catch a good movie.
- On May 3, De Kust is hosting a Fluffy Flowers workshop. You’ll create a beautiful handmade bouquet that will never wilt! More info can be found here.
- Totally hip & happening: clay modelling! The lovely ladies at Het Keramisch Huis will teach you all the tricks during their sculpting workshop. While enjoying a cup of tea, you can clear your mind as your hands do the work. You can book a workshop here.
- The previous editions were a huge success, so we’re super excited that the sourdough workshops are back at The Hague treasure De Zelfspot. The first session of the two-part series is on May 3 at 10:00 AM. You’ll find more info and how to sign up here.
- Time for yourself!
Get a fresh new look at The Hague’s friendliest salon Vita Hair, pamper yourself at Amilda Wellness Boutique, or reset and take care of your skin at PureSan. - Did you know that Het Filmhuis The Hague has a great program for kids? So on a rainy day, it’s definitely the place to be. Check out the program, films, and showtimes here.
Because of Liberation Day on May 5, many of us get an extra day off! A special day. Visit the Liberation Festival, join a Freedom Meal somewhere in the city, attend a commemoration, or head to Het Filmhuis for their special May 4/5 program and take a moment to reflect on the freedom we live in.
