We all know the feeling: trying to come up with a gift for someone who already has everything. So why not give them a shared experience instead? Like a nice lunch in The Hague. We know some great spots where you can sit down, catch up, and enjoy a delicious meal together.
Go out for lunch!
And there’s no better place than our beautiful The Hague. From laid-back cafés to beachside lunch spots or a luxurious meal at a fine restaurant – this city has it all. In this blog, we highlight a few hidden treasures in The Hague where you can enjoy a lovely lunch.
All of these lunch spots accept the Haagse Schatten gift card. You can order it through our webshop, or pick one up at one of our local sales points: Brute Bonen, La Paulowna Boutique Hotel, Couqou, De Zelfspot, or Bloemenwinkel de Iris. It comes with a special Haagse Schatkaart (Treasure Map), so you can explore the city and its treasures – and of course, we’ll wrap it up nicely for you!
Because let’s be honest: spending time together is the most meaningful gift you can give.

Lunch in the city behind the dunes
LOFT
We often find ourselves setting up our laptops at LOFT, located in the old Jeruzalemkerk on Pomonaplein in the Vruchtenbuurt. And honestly, what a unique spot this is! A place that radiates calm and space. Where the sunlight streams beautifully through the massive stained-glass windows—sometimes even more magical than the day before. It’s the kind of place where you can effortlessly spend hours, enjoying honest, lovingly prepared food.
How about sourdough topped with avocado, feta, pomegranate, and a soft-boiled egg? Or a giant bun filled with pulled jackfruit, crispy corn, and lime? You can also go for a hearty burger or a savory quiche. LOFT truly is a must-visit!
Bistro Jules
This is one of those places where you’re welcome from early morning until late at night. Enjoy breakfast while soaking up the first rays of sunshine on the terrace, indulge in a multi-course dinner—or, of course, stop by for a generous lunch.
At Bistro Jules, your inner Francophile will feel right at home. Fancy a French-style pain or a richly filled salad? Craving something warm? Try the croquettes au fromage or the boeuf. Whatever you choose, you’re in for a treat. And let’s be honest—what’s a French lunch without a glass of wine? Luckily, they know a thing or two about that too…
Sam Sam
The perfect lunch spot when you’re dining with someone who’s just as indecisive as you. Because at Sam Sam, you go… samsam! Here, you can order half sandwiches—two different halves, each with a different topping. It’s like having lunch twice for the price of one!
This cozy little spot has a calm vibe, and our favorite table is by the window, where you can watch people strolling by along the Noordeinde.

Beach pavilion Aloha
Aloha is one of the few beach bars that’s open all year round. Even in winter, you’ll feel the tropical vibes thanks to the warm welcome, laid-back interior, and tasty lunch menu.
How about a Sunshine Lunch featuring Samoa Smoked Salmon, Tasty Tuna, or a Byron Bay Burger? It’s summer on a plate!
The Shore
The Shore is more than just a beach café – it’s a meeting place for surfers and free spirits. Grab a spot at one of the picnic tables outside and enjoy a fresh Haags bakkie brewed by local roastery Roast Factory.
Surf culture goes hand in hand with healthy living, so you’ll find a simple menu here full of wholesome dishes and drinks, all prepared with care. Everything is organic and free from refined sugars. The Shore is famous for its pancakes – and they don’t mess around. Expect a serious stack!
Suiderstrand
It’s a bit of a ride heading south toward Kijkduin, but totally worth the effort. Because once you’ve landed at Suiderstrand, it instantly feels like summer. And when you settle in, you’ll never want to leave – and the good news is, you don’t have to! Suiderstrand is open seven days a week, from early morning to late in the evening.
The menu? Just as endless. All-day breakfast with yogurt or classic Dutch uitsmijters, salads, soups, toasties, fresh sandwiches, flammkuchen, or a whole range of shareable bites. You’ll be happily busy for hours.

Terrace weather?
Petit Paradis
Petit Paradis is a charming coffee and lunch spot tucked into an old corner building (which we absolutely love!) on the Westeinde. Here, they serve homemade cakes and tarts, sandwiches, salads, and a classic Dutch 12-uurtje. The menu is simple and reliable, prepared with love.
Located right next to the gate leading to the Kloostertuin, it’s the perfect little hideaway to escape the city bustle.
BLEND ONE
At this cheerful lunchroom, the Kuiper family serves up delicious sandwiches, soups, smoothies, coffees, cakes, and more!
BLEND ONE is a great spot for all ages, with a broad menu and plenty of seating. Kids can enjoy peanut butter and banana, cheese, or jam sandwiches, while adults have a wide selection including roast beef, smoked salmon, avocado smash, fresh salads, soups, and even (truffle) fries.
Pompke
Homemade cakes and cookies, lovingly brewed coffee, plus wraps and toasties you’ll want to lick your fingers after. Everything is freshly made in the tiny kitchen of this adorable little building on Pompstationsweg.
At Pompke, the focus is on food and people – and you can really taste it. After placing your order at the little window, you pick up your tray full of goodies and find a cozy spot on the terrace, where both kids and dogs are more than welcome.
Not-so-sunny weather? No worries! You’ll still be comfy and cozy indoors or under a sheltered patio with heated cushions at all of these The Hague treasures.

Luxurious lunching
Baardman
Baardman is a delightful spot where both the food and wine are top-notch. Their small, rotating menu is full of fresh, creative Mediterranean-inspired dishes—it’s a feast for the senses! The ever-changing menu means every visit brings something new, but one thing that never changes is the team. The staff at Baardman is passionate about good food, warm hospitality, and making guests feel right at home.
Oh—and did we mention it’s the perfect place if you’re arriving by train? Just a short walk from Den Haag Centraal, yet far from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Tommy’s & Zuurveen
Right by the water in the heart of The Hague sits one of the city’s finest restaurants. It’s a place where you can fully relax while being pampered from start to finish—with a changing menu, perfectly paired wines, and a welcoming atmosphere. Tommy’s & Zuurveen is the place to go for a luxurious lunch where everything just works.
Bonus tip for sunny days: hop aboard the borrelboot moored right in front. Sip a glass of wine, nibble on something delicious, and gently float along the canal—pure Hague bliss.
Bistro Le Petit Chef
For this French bistro, we’d happily take the scenic bike ride to Oud-Rijswijk any day. Because stepping into Le Petit Chef feels like stepping into Paris itself. Think vintage picture frames on the walls, crisp white tablecloths, and plenty of flickering candles.
You’re welcome any time of day—from breakfast to dinner, seven days a week. The dishes are authentically French with a modern twist, always made with seasonal, high-quality ingredients.

As mentioned: your Haagse Schatten gift card is welcome at all these treasures for a tasty and memorable lunch in The Hague. You can order one via our webshop, or pick one up in person at one of our partner spots. Each gift card comes with a Haagse Schatkaart—a handy treasure map to help you discover the city and its local treasures.
The best part? Every euro you spend with the card goes directly to a local business in The Hague. That way, we can all keep enjoying the city’s favorite hotspots—run by passionate, dedicated local entrepreneurs. With over sixty The Hague treasures to choose from, there’s truly something for everyone!
