What could be better than a spontaneous picnic moment somewhere in our beautiful city? And with all those lovely entrepreneurs, bakers, delis, and caterers in The Hague, your picnic will only get tastier! So, read on for our five tips for a perfect picnic! We’re already excited to hear about all your picnic experiences.
1. The Perfect Picnic Spot
It’s no surprise that this Hague town is full of beautiful spots. Finding the right picnic spot is actually not a challenging task.
Opt for a morning picnic in the Palace Gardens, the most beautiful garden in the city center where you can enjoy the city slowly waking up.
A lunch picnic is coziest at one of the city’s nicest squares. In our opinion, you’re in the right place at the Regentesseplein, the Koningsplein, and the Prins Hendrikplein – colloquially known as the ‘Turtle Square’ because of the lovely turtle statues.
Of course, nothing beats the beach in the evening. Watch the sun sink into the sea with the sound of waves in the background and a lovely evening picnic in front of you. On our Hague beach, you’ll undoubtedly have a picnic dinner with the best view.
2. The Contents of Your Picnic Basket: Sweet Treats
For the tastiest pastries, sandwiches, cookies, and cakes, make sure to swing by Victor Driessen Bakery in the Vogelwijk. Or visit Pompke, a cozy coffee house on the edge of the Scheveningen forest. We promise you that everything they bake not only tastes divine but also looks fantastic.
3. The Contents of Your Picnic Basket: Savories
A perfect picnic naturally includes sandwiches. Stop by Z’AHA deli and you’ll be spoiled for choice: display cases full of the most delicious ‘vegan friendly’, colorful, and lovingly prepared dishes. With so much goodness and the fresh aroma that always fills the air there, I’m sure more will end up in your picnic basket than you initially planned! And how about sushi? That’s picnicking 2.0. You can indulge yourself at Sushimeisjes.
4. Contents of Your Picnic Basket: Beverages
Last but certainly not least, the drinks! An essential part of the perfect picnic. Are you opting for coffee, matcha, or a healthy juice to-go? Don’t forget your Haagse Schatten to-go cup! For those who enjoy sitting outside on a blanket but don’t feel like bringing a picnic basket and filling it themselves, there are plenty of options for lazy picnicking. Think of a pancake picnic on the beach at The Shore because nowhere else will you find such good pancakes. Or opt for “Buitenontbijtjes” where Aafje will simply arrange your entire picnic for you!

Wij houden ervan: van die ondernemers die niet stil kunnen zitten. En daar hebben we er weer twee van gevonden: Udo en Lisanne. Zij openden Eetwinkel Vork op de Fahrenheitstraat en brengen niet alleen heerlijk eten, maar ook een bak energie en enthousiasme mee.
Dit doorgewinterde horeca-stel loopt al een tijdje mee en hield jarenlang verschillende restaurants door het hele land draaiende. En omdat ze wel houden van lekker veel hooi op hun vork (snap je ;)) , besloten ze hun droom waar te maken en hun eigen eetwinkel te beginnen.
Het menu van Eetwinkel Vork wisselt wekelijks. Udo en Lisanne kiezen op de bank thuis zorgvuldig uit wat ze die week gaan bereiden. Udo, een ervaren chef, staat garant voor maaltijden van topkwaliteit. Lisanne zorgt dan weer voor de verrukkelijke zelfgebakken taarten. Het resultaat? Een vitrine vol heerlijke opties om mee te nemen, plus een klein zitje voor wie ter plekke wil genieten.
Achter in de eetwinkel vind je een grote en gezellige keuken waar chef Udo workshops geeft. Of je nu je kookvaardigheden wilt verbeteren of gewoon een leuke middag wilt beleven, er is voor ieder wat wils. Workshops vinden standaard eens per week plaats en zijn ook privé te boeken. Perfect voor een verjaardagsfeestje, een teamuitje, of een andere speciale gelegenheid.
